Business recipe targets do-it-yourself PR for restaurateurs By THE JOURNAL NEWS

As Stephanie Crane sees it, restaurant owners should be doing a lot more to promote their businesses.
Crane has been president of Bronxville-based SCO Communications since 1988, a company that specializes in promoting food-related businesses.
Three years ago she decided to pursue an even narrower niche. She started Restaurant PR to sell do-it-yourself public relations tools to restaurateurs.
There are 900,000 independent restaurateurs in the United States, Crane said. "And we read about maybe 900," she said. Many people in the restaurant business have neither the time nor the money to devote to hiring a full-service public relations agency, said Crane, who still runs SCO but is also the founder and president of Restaurant PR.
Restaurant PR has revamped its Web site and developed new services.
Restaurant PR has an online interactive workbook that sells for $495. "Within the workbook you will learn how to write all of your own press materials, making a press kit, learning how to conduct your own public relations," Crane said. Restaurant PR also can build customized media lists.
More information about the company is available online (at www.restaurantpr.com).
